Trying to be Objective... Most people like to understand where the organisation they work for is heading, and how their individual contribution fits into that wider picture… and (of course!) most organisations like to know that their employees are all pulling in the right direction too. However, that can be difficult to achieve for a large organisation like the council - with 7000 employees doing wildly different jobs - and so the council takes the common route of trying to cascade its overall goals down through team structures into specific objectives for individuals.
Up-to-now we’ve operated a paper-based system, with the resulting joy of having thousands of bits of paper winging their way across Bristol and converging on our HR team. In practice that’s made it almost impossible for the team to collate the data centrally and maintain consistency in the way objectives are set.
This week we started to roll-out a new cloud-based solution from Simitive, which we’re hoping will be a paperless panacea to our performance-management problems – by giving the HR team a detailed view of the whole organisation… allow staff to clearly see where their work fits in... and generally keep the good ship Bristol heading in the right direction.
Non-limitive Simitive... Bristol-based Simitive recently won a tender exercise to provide a HR performance management solution for us – and, as mentioned above, we’re now working with their project team to roll it out. The main team are: Mark Gibbons, Theodore Mason, Alison Osadzinski, Dave Kimber, Paul Sheppard, Karen Jeffreys and Devinder Whelan. Simitive’s cloud-based system is designed to connect people and their organisations in a continuous process of engagement and enhancement, helping achieve greater levels of organisational and individual performance. While Bristol is the first citycouncil among their customers, we’re far from the first large and complex public sector organisation that Simitive are supporting. This growing SME have already picked up customers in pretty much every English-speaking country you can think of – in addition to some prestigious local clients such as Bristol University, Bristol Guildhall Chambers and the National Composites Centre. Paul Sheppard, Chief Operating Officer says: “We are passionate about the ability of our solutions to support transforming organisations and working with the Council to help establish a ‘Golden Thread of Alignment’ is a very exciting project”.
